As you know, the little country of Haiti is at war internally and thousands have died from gunfire, hunger and disease, massacres, kidnapping, and torture. Tens of thousands have been displaced from their homes...fleeing to the mountains to escape the gang violence that is ravaging communities in the capital city of Port-au-Prince and that has spread to some outlying urban and rural communities. The political unrest has not been reported in the larger news media but photos and editorials can be found on the internet when you Google "Haiti News".
Our church mission, Mercy Outreach Ministry International Inc., (www.mercyoutreachministry.org) has been ministering in Haiti for over 21 years. The current civil unrest has forced us to relocate our home office to a remote location for the safety of our project manager and his family. Our project manager and his family of 5 had to flee for their lives from their home and our office and hid in a small room in a safe house until they were able to escape to an undisclosed place for safety and resettlement.
Gangs control the roads and are robbing and kidnapping refugees fleeing for their lives. This relocation means that our mission can continue building a multipurpose facility for a church and school and supporting sustainable technology projects without the fear of death from gang violence. Unfortunately, after successfully relocating the family to a remote area, our manager met with a head-on collision while a passenger on a motorcycle taxi (the only mode of transportation in that remote area) on his way to our project in January. He sustained critical injuries and was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital where he underwent surgery on his leg which was fractured in several places. Unfortunately, the civil unrest has prevented him from receiving the ongoing medical treatment and physical therapy that is critical to his postoperative life. Please consider donating to this emergency. Our project manager has risked his life on several occasions over the years to keep us operating in Haiti. We cannot fail him nor the Haitians in remote villages who are depending on us to bring hope and education to these locations.
Please understand that we cannot disclose the exact details at this time. Precautionary measures must be exercised until order is restored in this country. We need your prayers and your donations to save lives and bring hope to our brothers and sisters in Haiti. We desperately need your help. The following options are available for making your tax-deductible donations:
1. Credit/Debit card donations may be made by selecting the DONATE button at the top of this page or any other page on MOM's website. We are a verified PayPal Giving Fund organization.
2. Checks may be mailed to Full Gospel Church of the Lord's Missions or (FGC/LM) c/o 4305 Byers Street, Capitol Heights, Maryland 20743
To prevent tracking of our movement by criminals we will post specific information and progress on the website when it is deemed safe. We appreciate your sharing this information with everyone you know (fraternities, sororities, churches, businesses, etc.). Thank you in advance for your generous financial support and prayers.
