Sustainable Urban Village
Mercy Outreach Ministry International, Inc., is dedicated to the research and implementation of appropriate, alternative, and sustainable technologies in developing countries. We are focusing on Haiti at this time which is listed among the poorest of all countries in the developing world. MOM is targeting the rural communities that are without modern sanitation, food security, clean water, educational and medical resources.
MOM focuses on the transfer of appropriate, alternative and sustainable technologies to address poverty in categories such as housing, health, education, sanitation, workforce development, agriculture, food security, internet accessibility and communication media through its innovative Sustainable Urban Village (SUV).
The SUV is a technology center where all of our projects will be designed in partnership with selected communities. The center will provide core services such as training and education in the use of technology to alleviate poverty while empowering the residents to move toward economic development. The concept is to address the various socio-economic problems in a community by adapting and implementing appropriate, alternative and sustainable technologies.

Media Center
Our IT organizational vision is fueled by innovative and self-sufficient technology which will help spearhead the development of impoverished countries. The Information Technology element embraces the transference of information and education through the use of multi-media that is powered by an alternative energy source where no electrical infrastructure exists. This will allow long distance learning, on-line education, Telemedicine, information management techniques, self-sufficient cyber connectivity, research, educational resources and sustainability within each of our sectors.MOM, in collaboration with several major universities in the U.S. and the GOC University in Haiti, will develop cutting-edge technology that will be transferred to rural communities through our Sustainable Urban Village (SUV) concept.

Solar Bakery
MOM was recognized as having the first commercial solar bakery in Haiti in 2009. MOM has three of these gigantic solar ovens in Haiti that can bake 100's of loaves of bread daily with the sun. Our past experience has taught us that a highly structured program of training in food handling and business management is needed for sustainability of such an important technology.
MOM will be establishing certificate programs with the College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences for students at GOC University in Haiti in various disciplines that lend themselves to preparing Haitians for employment in the food industry and agricultural sector.
A commercial solar bakery will provide jobs for many in the community and especially those who act as retailers for the bread and travel throughout the province selling their freshly baked goods.

Solar Cooking Program
Mom will train families how to use the small solar oven that is capable of cooking food with only the sun. The little units are virtually maintenance free and have a very long life span when properly used. They will cook beans, rice, meat, bread, etc. and can be used by street vendors for a variety of treats such as cookies, dried fruits, etc. This will impact the local community especially as tourism grows along major transportation routes.
Teaching families how to use solar cookers and how to make their own solar cookers will greatly enhance the efforts of environmentalists who are desperately trying to stop erosion resulting from cutting down trees to make charcoal for cooking.

Agricultural Self Help Project
Agriculture is the key to food security in Haiti. There is plenty of land owned by the people, and no shortage of sun! Haitians are greatly dependent upon imports which demand the greater proportion of their meager income.
Assistance with tools and equipment and a managed program will go a long way in establishing family gardens that will feed the gardener or farmer, and will also provide excess to sell at market. Having cash will allow families to participate in the economic activities in their communities thus supporting its budding economy.
MOM will design agricultural projects in partnership with our university partners and the local farmers and gardeners to determine the best crops for their locality and the best farming techniques. MOM will bring up the rear with equipment, tools and training with our collaborating partners in the use of alternative and sustainable technologies where possible through the research and development of innovative systems to increase yields and food quality. To date, our family garden projects have been the most successful of all projects in Haiti.

Fishing Project
Many small villages are located close to the sea and the waters abound with fish. But the locals have only wooden dug-out canoes made from tree trunks thus limiting their ability to harvest a bountiful catch after toiling all day.
Even the fish they catch is sufficient only for personal or immediate local use because of the lack of refrigeration. MOM proposes to transfer technology that would create refrigeration from several sources using seawater, solar and possibly organic waste (methane gas creation).
Coupled with the establishment of small cooperatives with internet access, fishermen will be able to do business with eating establishments all over the island via internet. Refrigeration will allow for travelling to customers thus strengthening an already popular food resource… the distribution of local fresh fish and seafood.

Housing ia a major problem in developing countries. With an ever expanding population, limited resources, and a fragile global economy, the need for sustainable and affordable housing is greater than ever.
MOM is in partnership with two Architectural Schools in the U.S. and the GOC University in Haiti. We are developing programs that will allow students to research and implement construction methods, materials and designs to best suit populations to minimize environmental impact and the negative impact of major climatic events on human lives. Accredited Certificates will be issued to those completing the training courses.
MOM has aligned itself with the manufacturer of compressed Agricultural Fiber (CAF) Panels which is the green alternative in constructions materials. From soil to structure, the company provides sustainable, durable and affordable building solutions with its next generation panelized building kits that offer an alternative to traditional block and concrete, petroleum and wood-based materials. Their flexible construction technology is easily expandable and will accommodate a variety of sizes and designs from residential housing to commercial and institutional structures. These kits can be shipped anywhere globally and are easily assembled within a day. All of their solutions meet national and international building codes. The end result can be the manufacture of CAF in country and export of the panels to other developing countries for affordable housing and a sustained economy in both.
The use of compressed agricultural fiber (CAF) panels creates a natural construction solution from recovered agricultural by-products from straw from wheat, rice, and sugar cane. Our research will explore other crops that could be used as well. This creates a cash crop for what normally would betrash to be disposed of by the farmers. The CAF contains straw, paperboard and non-toxic PVA glue. There are no preservatives, microbicides or any other additives used. The patented compression technology dates back to 1942 and it exceeds EPA standards. It is this kind of cutting edge, appropriate and alternative technologies that are sustainable when training is made available to communities in partnership with our SUV concept which promotes the creation of jobs and economic development for small businesses.
